Working with Political and Social Issues in Your Practice
Friday, July 22 and Friday, July 29. 7-8:30 pm (EDT)
with Wendy Eisner
Registration: Free
These are difficult times for all of us. With such extreme social and political turmoil, it is reasonable to expect that it will impact our meditation practice. There is so much pain, sadness, and agitation in my sittings (as well as for others’ I talk to) that I have been asking myself: Is meditation really helping? Am I getting some kind of relief or solace from my practice?
If you are struggling with conflicts in your meditation that are related to the conflicts in our world perhaps we can explore it rather than ignore it. During these two 1.5-hour sessions I will offer ways to reflect on how our practice is affected by the outer world. We will meditate together and then we’ll have a group discussion. The discussions will be open-ended and can include participants’ angst and frustration with political and social issues as long as the main point leads back to their personal meditation experiences. The goal is to gain wisdom about your practice by listening to others, voicing your frustrations, and doing your own inner work.
